Biodiversity Project Steps

1.      Decide if you are working individually or in a group. If working in a group, whom are you working with?

2.      Select the PROJECT TOPIC. Project topics pertain to Arkansas organisms or groups of organisms. Project topics are on a three-year rotation.

3.      Do a PRELIMINARY SEARCH to find available background information and to formulate an overview of characteristics to be addressed.

4.      Write the PROJECT DESCRIPTION. The project description includes a clear statement describing the topic and also provides a list of the areas to be addressed. The following is a generic example of a project statement; the project will include the description and classification of organism as well as discussing its life history, occurrence, and distribution in Arkansas.

5.      Write the ACTION PLAN. The action plan is a listing of the procedures that will be followed or the tasks conducted in the course of working on and completing the project.

6.      Compile the TASK LIST. The task list is a listing of procedures or activities necessary for project completion. The task list also includes who is individually or cooperatively responsible for the various project tasks.

7.      Submit a WORKING OUTLINE. The working outline is a sequential list of the items that will be included in the final product.

8.      Submit a WORKING REFERENCE LIST. Your project is based on the work of other people. Your reference list indicates the sources of your information and gives credit to the writers from whom you borrowed words and ideas.

9.      Complete LOG SHEETS as project is developed. The log sheets are a written record of individual and group work on the project.

10.  Compile a BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOLDER. The background information folder contains hard copies of all the available information that pertained to your topic.

11.  Complete and submit finished project. Be sure to include all required documentation.
